2011 Tennessee Vacation

Took a trip to Pigeon Ford, Tennessee for our Christmas break. We stopped 1 night at Tommy and Cathies in Atlanta, and then stayed the next 3 nights at a cabin in the mountains. Our first night there we saw some snow flurries falling. We were hoping for snow before we got here, but after seeing the road to the cabin, it might have been for the best that we didn't get any significant snow (it would have required snow chains just to get to our cabin because the hills near our cabin were so steep).

The next day we took the kids to Dollywood and had a great time. The water rides were closed for the season, but most of the rides were running, and the lines were not really long at all. The park was pretty affordable (in comparison to our local Orlando theme parks) too. Really enjoyable.

The following day we decided to go to the Smokey Mountains National Park and try some hiking. We walked the Fighting Creek trail behind the Sugarlands Visitor center and saw the Cataract Falls there. We also heard that there was some snow on the ground farther up the road and higher up on the mountain. Since the boys had not seen snow yet we decided to take them up to see it. Florida license plates were everywhere. There was a broken sled next to one of the hills that we all tried to use to sled down the mountain. Not nearly as epic as the hill we sledded on in Asheville, NC the year before, but the boys had fun none the less.
